Movie DNA

Sombre, measured, measured drama, grounded in texture. Nihilistic, mid-stakes, measured, hand-scored across twelve axes of taste.

How every film is hand-scored →

In a small town in southern Brazil, Lidia spends his days watching others working around you and at night dreaming of times past in the cultivation of tobacco, when I could still walk. Along with the rescue of its history, we know the lives of four other tobacco growers. Guided by tradition, mysticism or pure pragmatism, they live on the fine line between the fight and the love of the land.

Our read · The Cloud (2016) reads as a sombre, measured, grounded drama entry — measured in intensity, mid-stakes in scope, measured in temperature, nihilistic in outlook. Hand-scored on twelve axes of taste — mood, pacing, weirdness, hope, stakes, humour, reality, density, warmth, auteur, intensity, and era — with a derived palette drawn from its dominant cinematography.
